Competitive Program Mission

It is our goal to bring every young athlete to her fullest potential in competitive gymnastics. The Wood River Gymnastics Academy staff is extremely passionate about their role in guiding gymnasts through training and helping them develop into strong, disciplined athletes both mentally and physically. We hope to instill emotional strength that will help them excel in the sport and beyond. Our program puts an emphasis on discipline, perseverance, mental awareness and team unity. We are dedicated to offering every gymnast the best professional instruction in an organized program that sets a high standard. We will strive to bring out the best in every gymnast.
Team Development Classes

Supergirls
Class length is 1 hour 2x’s/week.
Student: Instructor ratio is 8:1

Supergirls was designed as a bridge between our purely recreational programs and the developmental/competitive programs. This program introduces 4 to 6 year olds to accelerated developmental skills which could eventually qualify a gymnast for the developmental and possibly the competitive programs. This class is by coach invitation only.

Future Stars
Class length is 1.5 hours 2x’s /week.
Student: Instructor ratio is 8:1

Future Stars is our first level of Developmental Pre-team. It is for ages 8+ and is by invitation only. In this group, gymnasts will be learning the form, presentation and work ethic to become competitive gymnasts. These gymnasts will perfect their basic skills and perform in exhibitions. A gymnast must have considerable strength, flexibility, and/or natural ability to be invited to this group. The gymnasts will continue to progress beyond the basics and are introduced to the level 4 skills. Pre-team classes target gymnasts who can perform advanced basic skills well, or show natural abilities and potential to develop into competitive gymnasts. The goal of the pre-classes is to prepare each individual for the competitive team. Students in this class will begin to learn USAG's levels 1-3 routines and may compete in Level 3 competitions. It is required that participants attend class 2 times per week.

GIRLS COMPETITIVE PROGRAM

COMPULSORY (Prescribed) LEVELS

USA Gymnastics designs the routines used in these levels to develop required skills and technique for long-term success in competitive gymnastics. The Level 3, 4, 5 & 6 routines are all progressive to one another. Routines are very intricate with little room for variation. Proper skill execution is vital. We feel it is necessary to move slowly through these levels in order to fine-tune the basics.

Level 3 gymnasts compete in non sanctioned gymnastics meets and adhere to a semi-competitive league represented by gyms in Idaho. The girls compete routines on all four events that are based on the USA Gymnastics level 3 routines but also have pieces of the future compulsory routines. Level 3 gymnasts have the opportunity to experience competition. They have a competitive leo, they earn medals and ribbons and receive actual scores from judges. Level 3 is a really nice transition from non-competitive to fully competitive at level 4. Girls at level 3 are not deducted for being spotted and are allowed to earn bonus for performing upgraded skills. Gymnasts must be 5 years old to compete at Level 3.

Level 4 Team trains the USA Gymnastics (USAG) routines, and is part of the WRGA Team program. This level is for the gymnast who has just entered the team, and develops basic skills. The workout is at least 2 days and 6 hours weekly. Level 4 Team members are welcome and encouraged to add a third training day to accelerate progress. Competition at this level culminates in a State Championship Meet. Gymnasts must be 6 years old to compete at Level 4.

Level 5 is a higher level of official USAG competition than Level 4. This group practices at least three days and 9 hours weekly. The level 5 gymnast competes in meets held in the state of Idaho and occasionally surrounding states from November through March. Gymnasts must be 7 years old to compete at Level 5.

Level 6 is the next level up in USAG competition. At this level the gymnast develops intermediate level skills. This group practices 3-4 days and 10.5-14 hours per week. The level 6 competitors will compete in the state of Idaho and occasionally surrounding states. The official competition season for all compulsory levels begins in November and finishes in March. Levels 5 and 6 extend to the State level. Gymnasts must be 7 years old to compete at Level 6.

OPTIONAL (Advanced) LEVELS

Optional gymnasts compete optional routines, meaning that the routines performed are created for each individual and should enhance her strengths. Beginning with Level 7, routines are designed specifically for the individual athlete; however there are still skill requirements that must be included in each routine on every event. Time commitments will increase, along with more frequent travel meets including competitions held out of state.

Level 7 is the first level of optionals in the USAG program. Level 7 is an optional (advanced) skill level with compulsory skill requirements on each event. This group practices 3-5 days and from 12-20 hours per week. Level 7 competes through the State Meet, and sometimes at a Regional Meet invitational.

Level 8 is the next step in the Optional Program. At this level the gymnasts train 4-5 days and 16-20 hours per week. These gymnasts develop intermediate level optional skills, knowledge of skill values, and creativity through routine development. The Optional season runs from November to April. The season culminates with a Regional Meet (6 Northwestern states) for Level 8's. Both Level 7 & 8 travel to out-of-state meets.

Level 9 and 10 are the highest levels of USAG age-group competition. These gymnasts work on development of individualized optional routines with more difficult optional skills. The girls practice 4-5 days and 16-20 hours per week. The competition season is November through April. These levels extend past the Regional level to National Competition if they qualify.
