Athletic Inclusion

Our programs
Every special needs child is different, therefore we have different class options.
Regular Classes: It works with many children to place them in the same class as they would have if they did not have a disability.
Caregiver Participation Classes: The curriculum is designed to involve additional adults on the gym floor during the children’s instruction. We teach the adult how to spot basic skills, as well as instruction on safety concerns and technique to that the additional adult can help the instructor on the gym floor. This is the best option for those who have difficulty with staying focused.
Private Instruction: This is for those children who benefit from gymnastics, but are not ready for the additional stimulus of other gymnasts in the class. It is also used for those who just want a one-on-one option.
The coach will discuss the athletes skills and limitations with parents or guardians to ensure an appropriate lesson plan and curriculum are followed.
Why Gymnastics?
Gymnastics is beneficial in many ways. The most visible benefits are the physical gains such as strength, encurance, coordination, agility, and balance. Gymnastics helps children with body control, spatial awareness, motor planning, and body awareness. Children with special needs gain the insight that their bodies belong to them and realize that they can use their bodies to accopmlish tasks.
Maneuvering within the gym environment is an adventure for children with special needs. It provide them with the primary job of every child—PLAY. Time in the gym is fun and exciting. Play helps children to aquire many skills needed throughout their lives such as language, social norms, sense of culture, and acceptable behavior. Play is the first active way individuals use sensory information to organize signals of the body. Children become aware of their surroundings through sensations as they look, touch, move, taste and hear. The brain then has the job to locate, sort and organize the sensations. When the brain manages this information properly the body moves competently and the environment is perceived in a precise way. Many children with special needs do not manage and process incoming sensory information effectively. The brain is nourished through gymnastics by providing a great deal of sensory input thereby providing more avenues for the child to be learn how to process this information more accurately.
In addition to the physical benefits of gymnastics, many lifelong skills are learned including patience, listening, and following directions.
Activities that challenge childrens imaginations help them to flourish. At the gym children have an endless adventure in which they have fun activities combined with an array of physical challenges to sustain their interest. Children feel an incredible sense of accomplishment when they master or overcome a new skill, movement, or challenge.
We provide the opportunity for special needs children to experience active lives that are filled with excitement, self-confidence, discovery and fun.
